昨年、ニュージーランド・ウェリントンを訪れました。

そこで出会ったのは、
さまざまな国や文化にルーツを持ちながら、
ニュージーランドという地で学び、遊び、成長している
子どもたちの姿でした。

日本で生まれ、日本の文化の中で育っていると、
自分のルーツについて深く考える機会は、
意外と少ないのかもしれません。

けれど、海を越えた場所で、
日本の文化に真摯に向き合い、
空手を通して礼儀や精神を学んでいる子どもたちがいる。

その姿に触れたとき、
日本人として、胸の奥がそっと熱くなりました。

文化は、遠く離れた場所でも、
誰かの中で静かに受け継がれていく。

その美しさに触れたからこそ、
私にもできることを考えたいと思いました。

誠道塾には、
複数の国にルーツを持ちながらニュージーランドで生まれ育ち、
空手を通して日本文化に触れている子どもたちがいます。

空手を通して学ぶのは、技の強さだけではありません。

礼儀。
相手を思いやる心。
人を敬う姿勢。
そして、自分自身を律する力。

それらは、国や言葉を越えて、
子どもたちの未来を支える大切な価値です。

アートが異なる文化をつなぐように、
武道もまた、人と人、文化と文化を静かに結びます。

このチャリティーは、単に活動を支援するためのものではありません。

自分のルーツを大切にしながら、
多様な文化の中で健やかに育っていく子どもたちを、
私たちみんなで応援するための、小さな架け橋です。

彼らの未来が、
より豊かに、より誇らしく広がっていくことを願って。

Last year, I visited Wellington, New Zealand.

What I encountered there were children
with roots in many different countries and cultures,
learning, playing, and growing up together
in this place called New Zealand.

When you are born and raised in Japan,
surrounded by Japanese culture from the start,
you may rarely stop to reflect deeply on your own roots.

Yet, across the sea, there are children
who engage sincerely with Japanese culture
and learn etiquette and spirit through karate.

When I witnessed that,
something quietly stirred deep within me — as a Japanese person.

Culture, even in a faraway place,
is silently carried on within someone.

It was that beauty that moved me to think:
what can I do, in my own way?

At Seidojuku, there are children with roots in multiple countries,
born and raised in New Zealand,
connecting with Japanese culture through karate.

What karate teaches goes far beyond technique.

Respect.
Empathy for others.
A spirit of humility.
And the discipline to hold oneself accountable.

These are values that transcend borders and language —
essential foundations for the children's futures.

Just as art bridges different cultures,
martial arts quietly connects people and cultures to one another.

This charity is not simply about supporting an activity.

It is a small bridge — built so that all of us together
can cheer on children who honour their roots
while growing up with grace in a diverse world.

With the hope that their futures will unfold
more richly, and more proudly, than ever before —
we would be so glad to carry this feeling forward, together with you.
